Yoga BodyWork

What is Yoga Bodywork?

Yoga Bodywork is a unique mixture of assisted stretching and Thai inspired massage techniques designed to release tight muscles and improve the health of your fascia.

Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. These tissues can often "knot up" and cause pain, stiffness and a loss of mobility.

Traditional Thai Yoga Bodywork is an interactive form of massage in which the practitioner blends compassionate, therapeutic acupressure and deep yoga stretches in a meditative flow– to release this tension in the body and create state of true yogic bliss.

Yoga Bodywork is done on a comfortable mat while fully clothed. The stretches and the rhythmic motion of the practitioner directs and allows the body to attain an advanced state of ease. An eye mask is worn to relax the body and appropriate oils are sometimes used to assist with calming the senses.

Yoga Bodywork was described in the New York Times as ‘the ultimate bodywork' because of its innate ability to reach the entire body. Thai Yoga Bodywork is easily customized and suitable for people of every age, range of motion and flexibility. I highly recommend this for high achieving athletes or those who work under stress.

What to Expect During Your Service

If you have never had a Thai Bodywork session before you are in for a real treat! Even though every session is customized for the individual you will receive a full body treatment designed to work through blockages, whether that's a knot of fascial tissue or just stagnant energy using massage, stretching, rubbing and kneading. The idea is to work along the bodies energy lines to restore and reset health and vitality.

What Should You Wear?

Your Bodywork practitioner will be moving you into different Yoga type positions and stretches. You should wear loose comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely.

What Will the Treatment Involve?

My unique style of Yoga Bodywork is a full body treatment because it is holistic. You typically begin by lying on your back on a cushioned mattress and your practitioner will start at your feet. The treatment involves your practitioner pressing up and down the body along the Sen lines (energy lines) using their palms, thumbs, forearms and knees. Some pressure points will be very deep but should not be painful. You communicate with your practitioner throughout. Appropriate yoga stretches will then be used to find space and length in the body.

Yes, you will be moved into yoga stretches but do not worry if you are not "flexible," stretches will only go as far as your joints and muscles will allow. Also, it is better to make sure you do not have full stomach.

What are the Benefits?

  • Increased flexibility

  • Release of stored tension and emotions in the body

  • Increased energy and concentration

Why Thai Bodywork May NOT be Suitable for you

Thai Bodywork is not suitable for everyone because of the amount of movement and stretching involved and the the deep pressure work. It is not recommended if you have any of the following:

  • Severe arthritis or inflamed, painful joints;

  • Thrombosis;

  • Severe varicose veins;

  • Repeated dislocation of joints;

  • Recent untreated injuries
